From a societal perspective, the impact of mental illness and mental health treatment on school attendance are major issues. School attendance is not determined solely by the health services received. However, school attendance is a critical objective for such services and these services should have some impact. A longitudinal approach to monitoring change for this measure is recommended, particularly in the absence of local benchmarks for school attendance.
