Case Managers for Minority Populations Overall Rank: 78
Availability of specialized staff who can act as case managers and coordinate treatment between providers for minority populations.
Domain : Equity
Individuals get the care they need, without inappropriate bias based on their social status or other personal characteristics such as age, gender, ethnicity or place of residence.
Additional Domain(s) : Patients with Mood Disorders, Competence
Rationale
Minority populations are often underserved when it comes for treatment of depression. Having Quality Improvement (QI) interventions that have modest accommodations for minorities can reduce health disparities and improve quality of care. Supplemental case management improves retention in traditional mental health outpatient care and can improve outcomes in minority populations.

Level of Evidence
I: Consistently higher quality studies specifically focused on primary mental health care.

Summarized CommentsAdd Comment
  • Although "case managers" are a good idea, they form another "step"in a complex array of providers.
  • * I prefer a more direct measure of equity vs. this indirect one.
  • * I find this measures’ relevance poor with respect to equity.
