Top 30 Quality Measures

Urgent Mental Health Services Within 24 hours Overall Rank: 10 Best in Domain
Urgently required mental health services are received within 24 hours.
Domain : Emergency Services
A hospital room or mobile crisis response unit equipped for the reception and treatment of persons requiring immediate medical care.
Additional Domain(s) : Patients with Acute Conditions, Accessibility
Rationale
Ready access to mental health care is a priority for consumers and purchasers of care. Potential barriers to accessible care include availability of appropriate clinicians in a geographic area, health insurance, utilization management and triage, and waiting times after arrival. A number of state mental health systems and private health plans have begun to establish goals for urgent, emergent, and routine access to care, and are measuring their performance against these goals. There is little empirical evidence about the association between conformance to these goals and outcomes of care.

Summarized CommentsAdd Comment
  • There is a significant care gap here.
  • 24 hours may be too long for urgent care.
  • In the North (Nursing Stations, isolated communities), this may be difficult to action due to availability of services and the need for transportion elsewhere.
  • I do not see this as actionable within/a component of PHC
